The WNBA's Atlanta Dream has announced that they have suspended ex University of Louisville basketball star and current WNBA phenom Angel McCoughtry for violating as yet unidentified team rules. Fred Williams, the new coach and general manager, told McCoughtry before Tuesday nights game against the Tulsa Shock.
The suspension comes amid other difficulties for the WNBA's leading scorer. Personal reasons kept her out of two games last week. She also missed a game against Los Angeles back in June for breaking a team rule. McCoughtry has also been at loggerheads with Marynell Meadors, the former general manager and coach of the Dream. The team fired Meadors on Monday.
That relationship declined suddenly. Previous to their problems Meadors and McCoughtry led the Dream to two WNBA finals as well as helping the United States win the gold medal in women's basketball earlier this month.
The 6'1” McCoughtry holds the career scoring record at UofL, which she broke in the first game of her senior season, and subsequently led to her being selected the number one overall pick by the Dream in 2009.
